  4. ZIP files - How to open them
Some downloadable products in their original non-zipped formats are quite large and take a very long time to download. When those files are compressed into zip files they take far less time to download. Winzip is a program commonly used to create and 'unzip' zipped files. Zipped files have the extension *.zip. But, you will need to follow certain steps to unzip a zipped file.
  1. Place your mouse pointer over the file.
  2. Right click on your mouse to launch the Winzip menu.
  3. Select 'Extract to' and select the folder (usually on the hard drive) in which you'd like to place your files.
  4. You should now see the unzipped file.
You will find within the unzipped file, some more files which can be downloaded. In this case they may be Word or Powerpoint files. If so, just double click on the file to open it. Some files have the extension *.pdf. In order to download PDF files to your computer, you will need to have the free Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. Once you have acrobat installed, you may save any PDF file to your local computer . Now follow these steps:
  1. Right click on the name of the file you wish to download.
  2. Select 'Save link as...' or 'Save as...' from the pop-up menu that appears.
  3. Your computer will then prompt you for a location to save the file.
  4. To open the file, just double click on it.
